These Voices of Mine (Music and lyrics by Teague) Verse 1 Chorus Verse 2 Chorus Solo Chorus Verse 3 Chorus Notes.................................................................................. This tune started with the verse chord progression. I wanted something familiar and kinda dark. It was played in 6/8 from the start. It gives it a slightly different feel. The intro and bridge use the same chords as the verse but played in half time (each chord is played twice as long). I used some spread voicing chords to make is sound open and used the volume swells to give it that free no real meter feeling. However there was a click track playing that was of course removed. Both solos are kinda in the vain of Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits and some great solo cds). The chorus took longer. I couldn't find the chord progression I wanted and I am not certain I ever really did. But the one I went with I can live with. I knew I wanted to change keys for the chorus and to start in a tonal center different than the verses. I also knew I wanted it to remain dark so it had to start with a minor chord. These were the fastest lyrics written on the cd and probably
the deepest for me. I thought I could let you all in on what this is about
but I don't think I can just yet. But I will say, I was in a bad place
and sat on the floor in the dark (I know the alone in the dark line is
cheesy but I really was in the dark.....I struggled with whether to use
the line or not). I used the street light shining in through the shades
to write. The 3 verses were written almost entirely in a 15 minute bout
of frustration and anger. I'm ok now. |
