| Know How to Fly
(Words by Teague and Steve Turner, Music by Teague)
Intro Verse 1 Chorus Verse 2 Breakdown Notes......................................................................................... I wanted to write a tune that just had bass, drums and vocals in the verses. I like the way that sounds when done well. Of course by half way through the verse I was sick of that sound so I added the octave guitar part to make it more interesting. The first idea for the tune that pulled me in was a bass line that became the chorus bass line. It was inspired by a bass line off Eminem's big hit a couple summers ago. The melody came easy and the words know when to fly were what I sang when just trying to lay some vocal melodies over the bass line. The verse bass line became a much more simple variation of the chorus bass line. I can't really remember how the bridge came about but I do know that the organ solo was a one take just fooling around deal. I was actually planning on putting a guitar solo there (which is what we do live) but the keyboard was plugged in and I flipped it to an organ sound and hit record. That is the solo. It isn't perfect but it was very much caught in the moment and I decided to keep it. And of course I couldn't leave it without a guitar solo so one got put at the end. It is actually two different solos spliced together in the middle. Some people didn't care for the way that sounded but I dug it and so it was left. The lyrics were written by a close friend Steve Turner
and myself. It is about a friend who is a little messed up trying to look
out for a friend who is more messed up. Kinda the blind leading the blind. |
